[...] I’ve had a long, and somewhat complicated history with Pedro. Some of my most joyous baseball memories are the result of his brilliance. (I’ve already gone on too many times about his 17-K performance at Yankee Stadium in September 99…the game that got me escorted out of the ballpark for my own safety.) His 2006 return to Fenway was chill (and tear) inducing. On the other hand, his continued obfuscation during same return was childish, and I’m very happy the Sox aren’t on the hook for his salary. (Among other reasons is this Sunday’s starter.) [...]

A tip of the cap to Red Sox management for orchestrating an appropriate welcome to one of the greatest, in or out of a hometown uniform. And a salute to the faithful for following suit, as well they should have. It was always a pleasure seeing Pedro take the mound for the Bosox. He was and is the best pitcher I've ever rooted for. He will always be missed and well thought of.
But Mr. Mnookin, I believe you're off base in your take on Petey's press conference. For me. the Martinez quote that sticks is the one Mike Bauman used in his piece on mlb.com: "I believe that (Red Sox fans) are the most faithful fans I've ever seen. Whatever they do, they're going to do it from their heart and they're going to do it for one reason. If they clap for me, I'll be really happy. But if they don't, I'll just have to say they're backing up their team, which is the Red Sox, not the Mets."
Sounds like a class act to me. Business-related BS aside, I say thanks for the many memories, Pedro. Now get out there, get another standing O, and then get your butt kicked tonight.
