Lester was sailing along nicely challenging hitters until the Cano line drive double. He then morphed into the left-handed Matt Clement - nibbling on the corners and afraid to challenge hitters with his stuff. I see the same from Hansen on many occassions. Someone hits one of his pitches hard and he goes into nibble mode. None of the above pitchers seem to hve the stuff to live on the corners ala Maddux or Glavine. Timlin's record of letting inherited runners score is well established. I just don't understand how a team that puts such an emphasis on situational stats keeps putting him in this position. This year his ERA is finally reflective of his effectiveness. Last year he was heralded as the lone rock in the pen because he had a lot of appearances and a low ERA. But his record for letting inherited runners score was always awful. Hansen is even more disappointing. I'm all for giving the young guys the benefit of the doubt while they learn but he is getting worse not better. I think he is overmatched mentally and this may not be the right environment for him.
