A-Rod just had another horrible game, 0 for 5 with 3 K's. He now has 9 K's in his last 12 AB's. Pretty incredible. Manny Ramirez is often described as 'enigmatic' but in terms of what is happening on the field no one is more enigmatic than A-Rod. If he continues to struggle for the rest of the year and the Yankees don't win it all, I think they would at least consider trying to move him. There seems to be some serious weakness in the guy's brain or his nerves.

Alex wrote the foreword to this book: S.C.O.R.E. For Life: The Secret Formula For Thinking Like A Champion. The source of A-Rod's wellspring of mental toughness, I presume. Maybe he needs a refresher course. Also, considering his recent track record, maybe Timlin needs to re-think his choice of literature, with a foreword written by a "champion" with approximately three less championship rings than Timlin himself possesses.

Detractors call him Pay-Rod.
He gives K-Rod a different meaning.
I also like Doubleplay-Rod.

I hate to say he's overrated, because he does put up nice numbers. But not too often in the clutch.
I do wonder how he'd perform is a different environment.
And, no, he should not have been the MVP last year.

By the way...it's called "Schadenfreude". A German word with no direct literal translation. But it basically means taking pleasure in the misery of others.

I discovered the word in the aftermath of the 2004 ALCS!

Is it just me, or do most of A-Rod's homeruns come with the Yanks either down 9-2 or ahead by 5 runs? It seems like the less pressure he feels at the plate the better he gets. Put him in a close game and he stinks the joint up more often than not. Look at games 4 - 6 of the 2004 ALCS when he virtually disappears during the close games and than look at his stats in games 1 - 3 when he was the second coming of Gehrig.

It is amazing how fragile he is mentally, especially since he is not "the man" on that team and never will be as long as Jeter is there. God, Papi got jobbed last year during the MVP vote...
