Im not commenting on Manny, but I have to give props for any good use of a Ghostbusters quote…

Ok I lied I have to comment on Manny… who protects Ortiz? That’s the only thing I worry about… Manny is worth 5 million a year just to do that and nothing else. Period.

And very importantly, what is the sox clubhouse like without trot? (and prepare yourself for the inevitable 2-4 pieces where sox players complain about why they didn’t bring him back…)

I wonder if Manny will “get religion” and volunteer to be back into the lineup to provide his friend-Big Papi with a few more pitches to hit in these final games. I think Manny being in the lineup could change Papi’s HR total by at least one but maybe even two. If he does this (despite Julian Tavarez assurance Manny won’t be playing anymore this season), it has got to go up as one of Manny’s biggest “team” acts. Manny would have to realize he will be assisting, albeit behind the scenes, with a team mate getting all the glory.

Seth, I always have wondered the Manny felt about being edged out of the batting title in 2003 by Bill Mueller. Any insight?

Why can’t the local media let it go? Bashing Manny is old and nobody cares. The fact of the matter is that the Sox are better off with Manny than without and 99% of the fans know this. They should too. The injury that Manny has is the same injury that John Valentin had. He tried to play through it, hurt himself worse and effectively ended his career.

I can’t believe that anybody could lay the blame of this season at Manny’s feet. There are so many factors. Papi’s heart scare, Wakefield’s ribs, Papelbon’s shoulder, Lester’s cancer, Crisp’s finger, Pena’s wrist, Varitek’s knee, Clement’s psychosis, Beckett’s transition, Seanz, Tavarez only throwing two pitches when he was in the pen, Hansen not being close to ML ready, Delcarmen learning on the job, Timlin getting old, Foulke getting old… Speaking of sacrificing yourself for the team, why doesn’t anybody in the local media note that Foulke basically sacrificed the remainder of his career in exchange for a title in ‘04?

Why didn’t anybody questioning Papi’s health concerns or Papelbon’s or Wakefield’s or Clement’s? (Clement by the way is not injured and I would bet my 401K on that fact.)

Let it go. Manny is not reason we are missing the playoffs this year. It is a combination or a lot of different factors. Also, we all can guess that Manny’s agent is in town asking for a trade but don’t say that he is when you don’t that have information. That is irresponsible journalism.

I would not be opposed to trading him this offseason though. Consider this: We trade him to the Angels and get Ervin Santana and a prospect, Manny’s agent gives his approval on the condition he gets an extension. Basically we had Manny during the most productive years of his career and moved him for some young pitching and took the 20 million in savings and spent wisely. Good deal. The alternative. Let Manny play out his contract, decline his option, watch him sign with the Yankees. I’m okay with Damon in the Bronx because I was sick of his act but I am not prepared to see Manny wearing pinstripes.
