Hey nice article Seth (aside from the gratuitous slur against my country-I'm not a Jays fan but they did win the Series in 1992 and 1993.)

Anybody want more proof that the Sox have the vibe back? Well guess who's back with us-the Sports Guy! Yes, Bill Simmons, who like so many of the fans Seth refers to in his article, proclaimed 'now I can die in peace' after 2004, then proceeded to whine and moan all through 2005 and 2006, lambasting management for not keeping the 2004 team together and generally being a bunch of morons. But in his latest mailbag Simmons officially jumped back on the ship:

'...then spring training rolled around and I watched a couple of Dice-K starts. That's all I needed. The guy's great. If you're a Red Sox fan, you'll be checking the paper every day just to make sure you don't miss one of his starts this year -- he's not as overpowering as vintage Pedro, but he has a similar
arsenal of pitches (including a ridiculous collection of off-speed pitches) and a real swagger on the mound. You always feel like you're in good hands with him. Same with Papi and Manny. And Papelbon. Lugo and Drew are enormous upgrades over
Gonzalez and Nixon. Beckett looks ready for a comeback year. Schilling looks like he has one last good year in him. And so on. And so on. And now that the one question (closer) has been resolved with Papelbon's willingness to take the job back, it feels like we're headed for a monster season. It's the best team that money can buy. Literally. And you know what? It's not my money. So screw it. I'm on board. Even if there's absolutely no difference between the Red Sox and Yankees anymore.'

Good times!

I used to defend him as at least a fun, if uninformative, read... but can't even do that anymore. It would be a beautiful thing if, when registering online, one could simply 'check off' which columnists they prefer never to appear on screen during the user's visits. Speaking of this man, does anybody else feel embarrassed when they see a non-player showing off a championship ring? Or is that just my reaction to his doing so? How the hell does he wear this in public with a straight face?

I found the article here : http://www.bostonmagazine.com/articles/how_the_red_sox_got_their_groove_back/

"Hardest hitting line up", Seth? I'm unsure if Papi or even Manny can keep putting up the numbers they do. I know this is such typical Sox pessimism but it is foolish to think Ortiz will hit another 50 + homers or have 5 walk offs. If he produces half that, it's still more than admirable but will it be enough for rabid fans and media? Will it be enough to win 95 + games?

That said, it does feel like it's going to be a wild ride.

Off-topic from this post, but I can't believe Seth hasn't yet commented on the CHB's horrific, even for him, "article" about 38pitches. The Globe's Prolific Polemic has reached a new low. And, to quote FJM, it's just downright hacky. I like how he uses the term "Lapdog" when he himself seems to fill that role quite nicely for this man.
