This sort of mushy thinking is a necessary part of accommodating oneself to the bureaucracy of a tenure track. An accommodation which is not compatible with solid journalism.

I agree that the reporter’s age has nothing to do with anything, but I think a vastly more important point is that this drivel was on the front page of a once-great newspaper.
